Fans of the Dead: Japanese Fan Art Showcase

We have a lot of HotD fans in the United States of America and United Kingdom, who spend their hard earned quarters blasting Curien’s creatures to obilivion. Even to a point of a fanbase like the Sonic series showing of their own fan art. Though, the US/EU are not the only ones, Japan even has a fanbase for The House of the Dead series. I’ve stumbled upon tons of fan art by the Japanese and there by far beautiful and amazing!

Interview with Will Sierra, the voice of Agent G

Will Sierra was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ. His love for the Arts started at the early age of 10, headlining in every school musical production. Then Will moved on to photography in high school. Upon graduation, Will Sierra discovered a new-found passion in fashion and home furnishings design. In 1994, Will Sierra re-discovered his love of acting and head-lined in numerous theatrical productions.

Today we have Will Sierra, providing answers to many fans of the House of the Dead series about his voice acting role as the famous AMS Special Agent G.

1. Have you ever played or heard of The House of the Dead series before you signed up to provide G’s voice in Overkill?

Yes, of course I did! Back in high-school, we would cut class and run to the arcade and spend all our lunch money on the actual huge video game machine! Such good and scary-fun memories!

2. Did you get the chance to ad-lib any of his lines in the game or did they mostly stick to the script?

When working on voice-over projects, it depends on the director and each individual project. On this project, we were directed to stick to the script. (Besides, I am also a writer, I respect the actual written word and usually do not deviate from a good script.)

3. Was Agent G’s personality something you brought to the character or did you have to follow a strict guideline?

Personality or character is always a huge decision when playing a role. For “Agent G”, I was asked my opinion and we all agreed that where I deciding to go was perfect. I gave him a cool, subtle approach, a la Keanu Reeves meets Rod Serling… Even-toned cool!

4. Did you enjoy providing G’s voice?

“Cream my panties!” or “Almost peed my pants!” … Which best describes an exuberant joy? I am a huge gamer myself… Now my nephews, nieces and friends can all play ME whenever they want to! The kid in me was thrilled!

5. Before you voiced G, were you given a chance to voice any of the other characters in the game?

The audition process was also the favorite of my career to date. I tried out for “Papa Cesar” and Varla’s brother, Jasper. They liked me as “G” and that was that.

6. How was your experience working with the other voice actors?

When doing voice-over work, you are almost always alone. But, on this project, I was scheduled in between Sarah (Varla) and Anthony (Washington). I met and chatted with both for quite some time. Both were cool and it was extremely helpful to build a mini ‘bond’ with my virtual video amigos!

7. Would you love to provide the voice of G in a sequel to The House of the Dead Overkill?

I would be honored and “over the moon!” with excitement. Unfortunately, to date I haven’t been offered.  I’ve heard whispers in the community, they may be going in a different direction with ‘Agent G’… I hope Sega doesn’t piss too many fans off… My fingers and toes r crossed and my voice is in top form, I’m just patiently waiting, like all of you.

8. Many fans asked this question since the first HotD game back in 1997, what does G stand for?

If memory serves me right; I think I know… Unfortunately, I would have to be whisked into a witness protection program if I revealed my information! I whispered it to a dying friend on his death-bed… I have been looking over my shoulder ever since! (Just as a precaution, I have since installed a remote-start on my car.) Lol!

Get your 777 luck with The House of the Dead REELS

Back in 2009, Sega created their own casino based website called “Sega Casino” where players can make bets and play slot machines based on many popular franchises by Sega, including The House of the Dead.

House of the Dead Reels is an exclusive game to Sega casino themed from their popular light gun game. I’m sure anyone who’s been to a seaside amusement arcade will be familiar with the series. It’s features are standard fare, spin in 3 scatters and you get some free spins, spin in 3 woman with the gun and you activate the Zombie gallery which is effectively a random scratch card sub game. Never the less it does what it does very well with a high degree of polish with great sounds and graphics making full use of the theme. Players are rewarded with frequent but small wins making this a highly addictive game.

Feeling lucky playing this game on Sega Casino? Unfortunately, Sega closed their casino site. But, I still have screenshots to show. Click below.

Tune of the Dead: The Lost Chapters

Awhile back playing The House of the Dead on a Model 2 Emulator, I digged inside the service test option to enter the sound test and found two unused soundtracks.

These two tracks could mean that there were two more levels in the game, but it was cut from the final production. Since were getting ports of the 3rd and 4th game on the PS3, should AM1 create a perfect arcade port or a complete remake of the game with 2 additonal levels with the tracks to keep the game brand new?

The House of the Dead Action Figure Concepts

Hack B. Nimble, a former employee of Palisades Toys, shows off some concepts of his work on the House of the Dead Series 1 and 2 toy line. Here’s a description on what he did in the early days work for Palisades.

“Some conceptual sketches from the House of the Dead action figures that I worked on in the early days of Palisades. A first series of 6-inch scale figures based on the SEGA first person shooter was released, a second series was designed, sculpted and painted but canceled prior to production.”

“For the hell of it, and because I think it’s interesting and because it’s my friggin’ page, gonna show the sculpts from the House of the Dead line that I recently uploaded the concept and control art from.

It’s cool sometimes to see how a sculpt turns out from the original material. The sculptor uses whatever concept sketches or control art I provided, along with whatever reference material I could put together for them.

Then it’s all process…they show me the rough sculpt, I make comments, they show the next step, comments, and on and on, until the sculpts are approved and then cast and painted. In fact, one of the types of art I did over the last ten years I never ever show, because it is boring to most…and that is when I take a sculpt into Photoshop and digitally revise it to show the sculptor what I need him or her to do to the piece.

I could have thousands of deviations with just that shit alone. And what’s interesting to note is that there is where a lot of my touch went into the work, being the art director. Many things would get shaped during that phase, the sketches and what-not were a simple starting point.”

SEGA SUPERSTARS! With The House of the Dead

Kevin Eva, owner of Sonic Wrecks, hooked me up with some assests from Sega Superstars to use for this site. I am very thankful for the support from other Sega fansites like these. As for Sega Superstars…

Sega Superstars is a crossover game developed by Sonic Team in 2004 for the Playstation 2 and uses the Eye Toy for great experience for the players. Sega Superstars has 12 mini games based off of Sega’s popular franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Channel where the play must be centered in front of the camera to give full control of the character.

The House of the Dead has a minigame where players must slap around creatures and save female civilians from harm. Funny thing is, if you hit the female civilian, she’ll slap you lol.

Here’s some gameplay footage to refreshing the memory

The House of the Dead Official Artwork and Concepts: Characters

Hello fellow HotD and SEGA fans out there around the world! Today, I want to show off some very old artwork from the original House of the Dead game back in 1996/97. This was one of the reasons why I created this site back in 2009 to show other fans never before seen stuff in the House of the Dead universe. For now I will show off artwork of the main characters of the first game and the bosses on the later date (If I can find or buy a new scanner).  Enjoy!
