In my previous blog, I’ve shown you all the beta footage of The House of the Dead III for the arcades and Xbox which featured Lisa and G fullfilling other character roles in the game before they were developed and different level layouts. And now, I want to let you all know a trivial fun fact. Did you guys know that The House of the Dead III was originally made as a cell-shaded game? Yes, it is indeed true. While developing the game for arcades and Xbox back in 2003, Sega intended to make the next installment of the series into a arcade shooter with cell-shaded graphics simliar to Sega’s other franchise, Jet Set Radio, but shelved the graphics due to its cartoony feel which strained from The House of the Dead series. Click below for screenshots of the cell-shaded and original beta.

While stumbling upon google searching for screenshots of The House of the Dead MOBILE produced by Sega of Japan. I happened to find this game out of nowhere. It’s called “The House of the Dead: Nightmare” I’ve managed to pop an emulator from my personal computer and played this bad boy. It happens to be quite enjoyable. The plot is similar to the original The House of the Dead game and the mobile game where you have to move in a 360 degree angle to shoot incoming enemies. The only differences in Nightmare is that it’s solely a 2D scrolling game similar to Galaga and the plot only focuses on Rogan only (Sorry G fans). The game also seems to be developed by the Sega China/Korea division that made Shinobi for mobile phones based on the art style. Here’s gameplay footage of Shinobi mobile.
Overall, this game is a fun game to play and has a classic arcade feel to it. The House of the Dead fans would definitely enjoy this game. Click below for screenshots.

The House of the Dead MOBILE is a mobile version of The House of the Dead for cellular phones with new features unlike the original game where you can turn your view perspective in a 360 angle with a navigator that tells you where the enemy is near. Unfortunately, it was only available in Japan. Though, there was suppose to be a US release along with other Sega Mobile games but it was probably canceled for unknown reasons. Click below for screenshots.
However, this isn’t the only HOD mobile game out there.
FightingFerret from DeviantArt knows how to make humor of the laughable lines from The House of the Dead 2. Prepare to lol like G did.

Produced by Gamest Comics, a Japanese book series which centers around video games in comic and manga form in the mid 90’s. This is something I wanted to share with both SEGA and House of the Dead fans out there.
Nightmare Syndrome Horror Game Comic Anthology is a ‘Anthology’ comic book compilation from Gamest, featuring a selection of various ‘Horror Game’ strips based on number of familiar games such as The House of the Dead, Clock Tower, Moonlight Syndrome, and Gekkamugentan Torico.
Today were going to focus on the plot of The House of the Dead Manga strip. It begins with Thomas Rogan and G entering Curien’s Mansion shooting the monkey creatures. Rogan hesiates as another creature approches him only to be finished off by Agent G. As they go through the Mansion after several events happening, Rogan suddenly brakes down and becomes a creature. G had no choice but to shoot him. In the end, Rogan was just waking up from a nightmare and dozes off again with the phone ringing. This was only the beginning of the story. Click below for the scans. Enjoy!

This is a very early trailer that showcases early gameplay footage of The House of the Dead III where you can see Lisa and G in Rogan and Dan’s position in story mode (before they were implemented in the game.) as well as different creatures and background layouts. The target cursors are a bit smaller in this version. Enjoy!
I have a friend on the social network that loves studying paleontology (the study of prehistoric life), drawing, and mathematics. Not only that, she’s also a HUGE fan of The House of the Dead series. We both chat a lot about the series and can draw a MEAN artwork when it comes to dinosaurs. Check out her beautiful artwork. Don’t forget to comment below.

Sega has released The House of the Dead III and is now ready release 4 this spring, but it almost took them a year to port it from the Sega Lindbergh arcade board to the PSN.
“It took almost a year to adapt The House of the Dead 4 for the console, from the initial game design to the product,” a Sega representative explained in an e-mail to Siliconera. “The main obstacles in converting The House of the Dead 4 from the Lindbergh board to the PS3 were the OpenGL and the data format conversion. Also, the PS3 has only 256MB of RAM while the Lindbergh board has 1GB, making the conversion challenging.”
”We did more than simply upscale the resolution to 720p. We brought the game render buffer up to 720p as well,” says SEGA “This makes the graphic quality and resolution far superior to all of the previous versions. In addition, we have re-made almost all of the UIs [user interface] in HD resolution.”
At least we get a port after seven years of waiting.
